Principal Designer & Country Director Seasoned in public policy development and implementation, Astrid is a proven executive with multi-million-dollar market experience ranging from urban planning and architectural-landscape design to public health, green infrastructure, and human capital development at global, national, and local scales, particularly in Indonesia and the USA. |
She provides compelling solution through strategic team building, storytelling, and activation to promote intellectual and emotional engagement with places that are core to our future. For that, she founded a planning/design firm, Terra Lumen, now integrated into Allenia Design; focusing on impact investing in planning and design interventions from new town, mixed-use, resort, residential, and commercial facilities, bearing her global lenses and local senses. She launched a non-profit Bentang Ruang Bumi (Place's Landform) to initiate community development and environmental awareness initiatives, including the STEAM Center, and Connect Us as a platform to highlight vision and actions for resilience.
Astrid served as Special Assistant and Deputy to leading green city mayors, Richard M. Daley of Chicago and Gavin Newsom of San Francisco, as Commissioner for the Arts in San Francisco, as Special Staff in Policy Development to Indonesia's Minister of Trade Gita Wirjawan, and assisted Indonesia's Special Envoy for the Millennium Development Goals initiatives, particularly to address maternal mortality and child undernutrition.
Astrid regularly writes in international media, speaks at global conferences, and lectures at universities. She is an award-winning Architect and Landscape Architect, trained in Indonesia, USA, and Finland, with works in Asia, North & Latin America, and Europe, and now pursuing a Doctorate in Design focusing on a practice-based research on climate urbanism with a special case study of Jakarta.
Astrid calls urban water, placemaking, and music her passion. Together with her daughter, she enjoys places she calls home: Jakarta-Bandung corridor and the Southeast Asian region, the Twin Cities Minneapolis - Saint Paul within the Upper Midwest, Galva and the Central Illinois river corridor, and the West Coast region of the Los Angeles basin.
